Day 1

Scripture to Read: Psalm 128:1

The word “fear” is usually used in reference to something or someone that causes us frightfulness, dread, and even panic. But there is also the use of the word “fear” which means we have a deep reverence and awe for something or someone. As Christians, the second use of the word “fear” should be used in reference to God and God alone. Our Creator, King, Lord, and Master is the only One worthy of our fear (reverence and awe). Psalm 128 is another one of the 48 psalms in which the writer remains anonymous. God, as the Author, chose to use David, Asaph and sons, the sons of Korah, Solomon, Moses, Heman the Ezrahite, Ethan the Ezrahite, and other writers to write the remaining 48 anonymous psalms. Our Lord used David to write 75 of the 150 psalms, so that is why many people believe that David wrote all of the psalms. Psalm 128, like Psalm 1, starts with “How blessed is…” to get us ready to understand that God’s favor/blessing is given to those who passionately pursue Him and His Word. We do not need to ask for God’s blessing, but we must know His Word to realize who God blesses. We saw in Psalm 1 that God blesses those who delight in Him and His Word and meditate on His Word. God tells us in James 1:25 that everyone who lives/obeys His Word is blessed. God loves to bless (pour out His favor on) everyone who follows Him and His Word and chooses to hunger and thirst for Him and His Word.

Challenge & Application

· Why is God the only One worthy of our reverence and awe (worthy of our worship)? · How are you choosing to follow God and His Word along with hungering and thirsting for Him and His Word?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

God loves to meet us where we are but never wants to leave us where we are. God is constantly working in our lives so that we are growing, maturing, and being sanctified by Him and through His Word each day. God tells us in Psalm 128:1, “How blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways.” In yesterday’s devotion, we began unpa...

Day 3

The second half of Psalm 128:1 says that the blessed person chooses to walk in God’s ways and live according to His commandments. Obedience and God’s blessings go hand-in-hand. God shares this Truth throughout His Word. God says it this way in Psalm 119:2–3: “How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, who seek Him with all their heart...

Day 4

God loves for us to walk in intimate fellowship with Him daily. God never wants us to get so busy that we neglect our fellowship with Him and His Word. When we fall into the trap of spiritual neglect, it’s like having these incredible unwrapped gifts just waiting to be opened but we’re too busy to open them. Therefore, we miss what God has fo...

Day 5

God used the writer of Psalm 128 to give us another perspective on what His blessings look like for those who fear Him. Through Psalm 128, we’ve been challenged to fear (to be in reverence and awe, worshipping) our Lord. When we choose to fear God, we know God pours out His favor on us. Another blessing from our Lord is shared in Psalm 128:3,...

Day 6

Men of God are in the minority in this country; sadly, the same holds true in most churches across this country. God is calling men to die to themselves, surrender to Him, fear Him as their God, Lord, King, Master, and Savior, and passionately pursue Him and His Word daily. For men to be blessed, they must first learn to fear God above everyt...

Day 7

God ends Psalm 128 by leading the writer to give a word of blessing to everyone who is a follower of God. We read in Psalm 128:5–6, “The Lord bless you from Zion, and may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life. 6 indeed, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!” The writer mentions Zion, which is God’...
