Scripture to Read: John 3:16–17
We know that the fullness of God’s love was revealed in Christ our Lord. The Scripture we first read today is so familiar that often we pass by it too quickly. We read in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” God’s greatest demonstration of His love for all mankind was shown through our Lord Jesus Christ. God’s Word reminds us in Romans 5:8, But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. God, as Father, Son, and Spirit, has always loved us, and we know this because God tells us in Ephesians 1:4, …He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. God chose us before we were ever born. But what God is waiting on is for those who have been made in His image (Genesis 1:27) to choose to love Him back and follow Him as Lord. God wants us to walk in the fullness of His rich mercy, and we know He offers His mercy to all because of His love for all. We read in Ephesians 2:4–5, But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved). We know there’s no greater love, so walk in it.

• What’s the greatest challenge for people today when they first hear of God’s love for them and His mercy toward them?
• Knowing what Christ has done for us, why do we not live 100% of the time for Him?
