Day 5

Scripture to Read: Matthew 1:22-23

There are over four hundred prophecies that Jesus perfectly fulfilled. The prophecies quoted in Matthew 1:23 come straight out of Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 9:6–7, and Isaiah 8:10. The evidence of Jesuss’ Lordship is unquestionable—still, many question wheth- er Jesus is the One True Messiah. In “Science Speaks” (Moody Press, 1963), Peter Stoner determined that the probability of one man fulfilling only eight of the four hundred-plus prophe- cies in the Old Testament about the Messiah would be 1 in 10 to the 17th power. Let’s get a picture of what that number looks like. If we took that many silver dollars and laid them all over the state of Texas, they would cover the state two feet deep. Let’s say we mark just one of those silver dollars, stir the whole mass of silver dollars thoroughly, then blindfold a person and tell them they can travel all over Texas to find that one marked silver dollar. Eventually, they must pick up one silver dollar and it must be the one we marked. The odds of them picking up the silver dollar we marked on their first try would be the same odds of anyone fulfilling only eight of the Messianic prophecies in the Old Testament. Jesus is undoubtedly the Messiah, and salvation can only be found through a relationship with Him. The proph- ecies in Isaiah quoted in Matthew 1, along with all of the other prophecies that Christ fulfilled, overwhelmingly prove that Je- sus is God the Son. We must worship, follow, obey, and passion- ately pursue our intimacy with Him as our Messiah every day.

Challenge & Application

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God used eight different men to write His Word, which we know as the New Testament. Matthew was one of those writers. God used these men to reveal all He wanted us to know about Him- self as Father, Son, and Spirit. The focus for this week is on Je- sus. Jesus was 100% human, being born of a woman, and 100% God because the seed planted in Mar...

Day 2

In Matthew 1:19, we find that Joseph was a righteous man. As followers of Christ, we know that our righteousness is only found through our relationship with Christ since we surren- dered to Him as our Lord and Savior. So, there’s no doubt that Joseph followed God and desired to honor God through his life. If Joseph were just a religious man (...

Day 3

If you’re reading this on the accurate date, “Merry Christmas.” God is sovereign (in absolute charge and control to carry out His perfect will) in all things (Philippians 2:13). God knew the heart of Joseph, so He sent an angel to speak to Joseph in a dream. We read in Matthew 1:20, “But when he had considered this, be- hold, an angel of the ...

Day 4

In our American culture today, we do not investigate the mean- ings behind names. That’s not to say that parents do not labor over what they will name each child, because they do. But for most parents, it’s picking a name that sounds right, fits their family, does not sound hokey, or does not remind them of someone they do not like. In the Je...

Day 6

Obedience to our Lord and His Word is the evidence of a changed life. God’s Word tells us in Matthew 1:24, “And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife.” When Joseph woke up, he never doubted what God had spoken to Him through His angel, and Joseph obeyed what God told him to do. G...

Day 7

Joseph was willing to trust and obey God. We see this evidence clearly in Matthew 1:25. Joseph gave the baby the name of Jesus, which was the name the angel had given to Joseph as the angel spoke to him in his dream. Another sign of Joseph obeying God was that Joesph did not have sexual relations with Mary until she gave birth to Jesus. Now, ...
