Scripture to Read: Luke 5:1
When we left off in Luke 4, Jesus continued to preach in the synagogues of Judea. As we begin Luke 5, God had Luke record in Luke 5:1, “Now it happened that while the crowd was pressing around Him and listening to the word of God, He was standing by the lake of Gennesaret.” Jesus was drawing a crowd wherever He went. Jesus shared the Word of God with them. God’s Word is one of the greatest gifts that God has given us. We know God’s Word is powerful and that God uses His Word to transform lives. God tells us this about His Word in Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Jesus was speaking words of “life” to the people and they desired more. God reminds us that we were born again through hearing His Word and then responding to His Word by surrendering to Christ as Lord. God reveals this to us in 1 Peter 1:22–23, “Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, 23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.” Just as Jesus shared God’s Word, we must do the same daily so others may be transformed by His Word.
