Scripture to Read: Luke 8:15
Jesus talked about the seed that actually fell on good soil. As God had Luke record what Jesus said in Luke 8:15, “But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.” The key to producing good fruit for the glory of our Lord is the type of heart we have. Only through a vibrant fellowship with our Lord and His Word on a daily basis will we become good fruit bearers for our Lord. The goodness of our hearts is not based on any goodness we have to offer, but on the goodness of our God Who dwells in us through His Holy Spirit. When we walk in full surrender to Him, then we become “vessels for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work” (2 Timothy 2:21). We also must choose to “hold fast” to God’s Word. God had Paul record this in Philippians 2:14–16, “Do all things without grumbling or disputing; 15 so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.” What we treasure, cling to, and hunger for should always be God’s Word so we grow in Him (1 Peter 2:1–3).
