Day 4

Scripture to Read: Acts 2:46

Yesterday’s devotion focused on God’s transformational work in every believer's life. God continues to show us how the new Christians in the first church were growing. We read in Acts 2:46, Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart. The believers were in constant fellowship with each other day by day. It’s hard for us to imagine this kind of close-knit community, but it reminds me of the neighborhood I grew up in as a kid. I remember my parents being friends with almost everyone who lived on our street. Though that was fifty-five to sixty years ago, I still remember several neighbors getting together nearly every evening after people got home from work to talk and hang out, and all of us kids would play. Often, we would have meals together with all of the neighbors too. The picture of the first church was that they had this incredible community through Christ and wanted to learn, ask questions, see God’s handiwork, and enjoy the new fellowship they had with other Christians. God designed us to do life together, but because of how our communities are set up today, we don’t see that often happening anymore. The local church and the community groups are where we get to do some life together and hopefully build meaningful friendships because of our bond through Christ, our Lord. We reap the benefits of godly fellowship as we grow and serve our Lord together.

Challenge & Application

• From what God taught you, what is His design for godly fellowship through the local body of believers? • How are you actively pursuing others to be in community with you and to help them grow in Christ?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

The last set of devotions was incredibly encouraging as we saw God use Peter and the other disciples who had been filled with His Holy Spirit to share Christ with all those in Jerusalem and see over 3,000 souls surrender to Christ as Lord. So, we’ll examine what the people did as the church of our Lord Jesus Christ began. We read in Acts 2:42...

Day 2

Think about the last time you were in absolute awe of what God has done or is doing or what you know He will do in the future. Now, if it was challenging to come up with something, it’s not that God is not working miraculously every day; it’s because we miss His handiwork due to allowing ourselves to be distracted by the garbage the world off...

Day 3

God drastically transforms every follower of Christ (John 3:3, Romans 6:4, 2 Corinthians 5:17) because He comes to live in every Christian through His Holy Spirit—sometimes the change is immediately evident to everyone and sometimes the change takes more time. It’s not that God does not do the same transformational work in each person; it’s t...

Day 5

As God worked in the lives of all the new Christians, He continued to transform the lives of people around them. We read in Acts 2:47, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. We know from Acts 2:46 that the new Christians shared their meals with great jo...

Day 6

God moves mightily within each and every Christian daily. God’s handiwork is evident in the Christians who choose to walk in obedience to Him. This means the Christians who willingly give in to their fleshly desires are grieving and quenching the Holy Spirit within them (Ephesians 4:30, 1 Thessalonians 5:19). What God reveals to us about the new...

Day 7

God had set on the hearts and souls of all the new Christians to share abundantly with one another what God had richly given to them. Not only did the new Christians share generously with each other, but God also tells us in Acts 4:33, And with great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and abundant ...
