Scripture to Read: 1 Kings 17:5–6
Elijah had been told by God where he must go so his needs would be met. God reveals this to us in 1 Kings 17:5–6, “So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and lived by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he would drink from the brook.” Elijah did what everyone must do when God lays out His plan: keep our mouths closed and obey what God has said. Elijah did not question God; he simply went and did exactly what God had told him to do. God has promised us in Ephesians 2:10 that He has created us, through Christ, as His work of art. He has made us brand new. The reason He’s made us new is so that we are able to carry out the good things He planned for us long ago. Note too that God used ravens as His delivery service, providing bread and meat to Elijah every morning and evening. God is never limited in His resources, and though we do not know where the bread and meat came from, we know that God provided for Elijah’s needs. God also provides all of our needs. God may not use ravens, but He uses us in each other’s lives. God used the church in Philippi to help meet the needs of Paul, as we read in Philippians 4:10–19. Just like Elijah, God wants us to trust and obey Him.
