Day 3

Scripture to Read: Luke 13:25–27

Jesus wanted those who were listening to Him, and for everyone today, to understand that there would come a time when the gift of salvation would no longer be available. God had Luke record this in Luke 13:25–27, “Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up to us!’ then He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ 26 Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets’; 27 and He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from; depart from Me, all you evildoers.’” We do not know when that final day will be, when the door to heaven will be closed and salvation will no longer be offered, but to know that day will happen ought to spur us on, not only to live wholeheartedly for our Lord, but to be diligent in sharing the Gospel with everyone we know. Jesus even said that many will say that they knew of Him and had even heard some of His teachings, but knowing about Jesus, hearing about Jesus, and reading about Jesus are not what save an individual. Having a head-knowledge of Jesus does not transform a life. Each person must be willing to surrender to Jesus as Lord to enter into a relationship with Him. Without the relationship with Christ, He will tell them that He does not know them and that they must depart.

Challenge & Application

Why is it imperative that we daily live for Christ but also share Him with this lost and dying world? Why is knowing about Jesus and about His Word not enough?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus knew He had come to fulfill the Father’s perfect will (John 4:34, John 5:30, John 6:38) and part of that plan was to continue preaching the good news of the kingdom in every town and village (Matthew 4:23, Matthew 9:35, Luke 4:43). God had Luke record this in Luke 13:22, “And He was passing through from one city and village to another, ...

Day 2

Jesus had been asked if only a few would be saved, so God had Luke record Jesus’ answer in Luke 13:24, “And He said to them, 24 ‘Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.’” Just as Jesus had already shared in Luke 9:23–24 about the cost of following Him, Jesus again declared that t...

Day 4

Jesus talked more about hell than He did heaven. Jesus did not want those who were listening to Him, nor anyone today, to misunderstand that hell is a place of eternal torment. Jesus said in Luke 13:28, “In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of Go...

Day 5

Jesus continued to describe a little bit of heaven as God had Luke record in Luke 13:29–30, “And they will come from east and west and from north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God. 30 And behold, some are last who will be first and some are first who will be last.” People who surrender to Christ as Lord will come ...

Day 6

God gives us a little glimpse at some Pharisees who actually wanted to help protect Jesus. Too often, people think that all the Pharisees opposed Jesus, but that was not true. God had Luke record the following in Luke 13:31–33, “Just at that time some Pharisees approached, saying to Him, ‘Go away, leave here, for Herod wants to kill You.’ 32 ...

Day 7

Jesus was burdened for the Jews and grieved over the people of Jerusalem, as God had Luke record the following: Luke 13:34–35, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not have it! ...
