Day 6

Scripture to Read: Luke 17:30–34

Jesus began to bring all of the stories He had shared together, as we read in Luke 17:30–34, “It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed. 31 On that day, the one who is on the housetop and whose goods are in the house must not go down to take them out; and likewise the one who is in the field must not turn back. 32 Remember Lot’s wife. 33 Whoever seeks to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34 I tell you, on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left.” Jesus described a coming “day” in which He will be revealed. Jesus focuses on detachment from this world and the urgency of being ready for the coming of the Son of Man. In these verses, Jesus warns His disciples not to return to their homes to retrieve possessions when the time of judgment arrives. Jesus even uses the example of Lot’s wife, who looked back and became a pillar of salt. Jesus then concluded with a call for total commitment to Him. Jesus made it clear that whoever tries to save their own life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for the sake of Christ and His Kingdom will preserve it. Only through Christ can a person be reconciled to God the Father. Satan seeks to convince people that the riches of this world are worth chasing, but only through Christ do we find life abundantly.
