Day 1

Scripture to Read: Luke 5:12–13

Jesus continued His ministry throughout the region of Galilee, where about 85% of His public ministry took place. As Jesus was going from place to place, we find that God had Luke record the following in Luke 5:12–13, “While He was in one of the cities, behold, there was a man covered with leprosy; and when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and implored Him, saying, ‘Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.’ 13 And He stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, ‘I am willing; be cleansed.’ And immediately the leprosy left him.” Our Lord Jesus can heal any and every disease that has ever been and that will ever be. We know that Jesus did not heal everyone while He walked here on earth, but He healed according to God the Father’s perfect will. While Jesus was in His earthly body, healing was used as a way of confirming His deity. God still chooses to heal today, but it will always be done for His glory and to draw others to our Lord Jesus Christ. As we pray for healing for others, we can follow the example of the man covered in leprosy and say to our Lord, “Lord, if You are willing, You can heal… so I ask You, according to Your perfect plan, to heal them as You see fit.” God knows His perfect plan, and sometimes it does not align with what we would like to see happen. Nevertheless, God loves it when we ask Him, but we need to trust Him regardless of how He answers.

Challenge & Application

Why did Jesus choose to heal the man with leprosy? How are you learning to trust in our Lord more, and how has your prayer life matured as He is teaching you to trust Him?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

After Jesus had healed the man with leprosy; God had Luke record this in Luke 5:14–16, “And He ordered him to tell no one, ‘But go and show yourself to the priest and make an offering for your cleansing, just as Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.’ 15 But the news about Him was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to h...

Day 3

Jesus’ ministry continued to marvel many, and often, people would do whatever it took to get their family and friends in front of Jesus just hoping He would be willing to heal them. God had Luke record the following in Luke 5:17–19, “One day He was teaching; and there were some Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting there, who had come fro...

Day 4

Since we know the determination of the friends of the man with leprosy, we read this today in Luke 5:20–26, “Seeing their faith, He said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven you.’ 21 The scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, ‘Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?’ 22 But Jesus, aware of their re...

Day 5

At this point in Jesus’ life, He was still calling His disciples to follow Him. Historically, a rabbi of that time would typically begin taking on disciples at the age of thirty. It was at the age of thirty that Jesus began His public ministry. For those bright (or wealthy) enough, higher education meant studying under a local rabbi. If a rab...

Day 6

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day hated Him and sought every opportunity to accuse Him of breaking God’s commandments. The problem was that they had no idea they were accusing the very God who gave those commandments. God had Luke record in Luke 5:33–35, “And they said to Him, ‘The disciples of John often fast and offer prayers, the discipl...

Day 7

Jesus continued to use parables as He taught the religious leaders. We read in Luke 5:36–39, “And He was also telling them a parable: ‘No one tears a piece of cloth from a new garment and puts it on an old garment; otherwise he will both tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one puts new wine into old wine...
