Day 6

Scripture to Read: Acts 2:25–36

God loves to reveal to His children how His Word is one continuous story about Him as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As we continue to walk through Acts 2, we’ll focus on the rest of the sermon God had Peter preach to the people in Jerusalem. In Acts 2:25–36, God had Peter quote from Psalms 16:8–11, knowing that Psalm 16 was a prophecy about our Lord Jesus Christ. God had Peter point to the fact that Psalm 16 could not be speaking of David because David was dead and buried. God had Peter tell the people that even David knew he was writing about his Messiah in Psalms 16. We read in Acts 2:31, he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh suffer decay. David was the one “looking ahead” and also the one who spoke about Christ’s resurrection. Then, God the Holy Spirit had Peter tell the crowd what God the Father had done through Christ in Acts 2:32–35. God the Father raised Christ from the dead, exalted Christ to His right hand, and, as God had promised, gave Christ the Holy Spirit to pour out upon all mankind. But don’t miss how God had Peter end Acts 2:33, by sharing with the crowd that what they saw through all of the disciples was the presence of the Holy Spirit being poured out. God had Peter end his sermon by reminding the people that God the Father made Jesus both Messiah and Lord.

Challenge & Application

• What did God teach you today through the prophecy God had David write and the sermon God had Peter preach? • How is God using you in the same way He used Peter to point people to follow Jesus?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

As we begin Acts 2, we must understand Pentecost and why God sent His Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Pentecost was the second major festival of the Israelites, known as the Feast of Weeks (Shavuot in Hebrew). Beginning the day after Passover (the 16th of Nisan), the Israelites counted forty-nine days, then started the celebration of the feast of W...

Day 2

In Acts 2, God came in the presence of His Holy Spirit to set free everyone enslaved to sin. God fulfilled His promise to send a Helper (John 14:16, John 14:26, John 15:26, John 16:7) so all who surrendered to Christ as Lord could live fully for Him. Through His Holy Spirit, God gives every saved soul rest (Matthew 11:29). God does miraculous...

Day 3

When God goes to work, He uses His children to carry out His work (Ephesians 2:10). God showed up mightily through His Holy Spirit, and the crowd gathered. Some wondered while others mocked, and when the mocking began, God gave Peter His boldness (Ephesians 6:19–20) to speak (Acts 2:14–15). God had Peter first answer those who mocked the disc...

Day 4

Today, God will continue to teach us from the sermon He gave Peter to preach on the day of Pentecost. In yesterday’s devotion, we saw how God used Peter to refute those who thought the disciples were drunk at 9:00 AM. Peter told the people that he and the rest of the disciples of Christ were filled with God’s Holy Spirit. God used Peter to sh...

Day 5

We will only focus on one verse today because of the incredible message that God has given us in this verse. As God used Peter to preach to the people in Jerusalem, he continued in Acts 2:24, “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.” God the Father through God...

Day 7

God has spoken mightily through His Word, and He gives us more encouraging news through Acts 2:37–41. According to Hebrews 4:12, God's Word is ”living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing.” God spoke His Word through Peter to penetrate the people's hearts in Jerusalem. Then, the people asked Peter and the other apostl...
