Scripture to Read: Psalm 130:6
Our hopes and longings are quite the same. But, as we read Psalm 130:6, we see how the Psalmist uses military personnel as an example of longing for our Lord. In Psalm 130:6, the Psalmist wrote, “My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning; Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning.” In light of what God had the Psalmist write, consider what we long for each day. As the psalmist speaks of the watchman wait- ing for the sun to peek over the horizon, the watchman does not doubt that the sun will rise; he only wonders how much lon- ger he must wait. God has given us His Word so that we know His precious and magnificent promises. The good news is that almost all of God’s promises have been fulfilled through our Lord Jesus Christ. The promises that are yet to come are those that will happen during the great tribulation, Christ’s 1,000- year reign, and then the final judgment after Christ’s 1,000- year reign. God desires that we live with the expectant hope of Christ’s return just as the watchman waited for the dawn. We do not wait wondering “if” He will return and do all He has prom- ised, but we wait knowing He will return and everything will be fulfilled according to His perfect will. As the watchman waited for the dawn, he stayed ever watchful, protecting the city walls and gates. As we wait for our Lord’s return, we also must walk in obedience to Him and His Word daily, knowing our hope is in Him and His promises.
Challenge & Application
• We know our Lord is returning, and our hope is in Him and His Word. How are you living in the hope He has given you?
• How are you sharing the hope found through your relation-
ship with our Lord Jesus Christ with others?
