Scripture to Read: Luke 1:57–58
Our Lord worked miraculously on behalf of Zacharias and Elizabeth. We read in Luke 1:57–58, “Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son. 58 Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had displayed His great mercy toward her; and they were rejoicing with her.” We need to remember that Elizabeth had been barren for years. For her to have a child in her later years was a miracle from the Lord. We also must remember how Zacharias and Elizabeth were described in Luke 1:6. Now, only our Lord Jesus was able to live by all the standards of biblical holiness perfectly, but God had Luke describe Zacharias and Elizabeth as “righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord,” which tells us that both of them lived a life of willing obedience to God. Elizabeth and Zacharias showed great patience as they waited on God to answer their prayers. As they waited, they remained faithful to God’s commandments and statutes, steadfast in their faith. God answered Elizabeth and Zacharias’ prayer in His perfect time because of His bigger plan. God had chosen Elizabeth for a greater blessing than she could have imagined. God had chosen her to be an integral part of His plan of salvation, but it had to wait until the fullness of time to unfold. We must also be patient as we pray and steadfast in our faith, being ever mindful that God’s plan is perfect and He will answer in His perfect time and way.
Challenge & Application
Since our righteousness is found in Christ (Philippians 1:11 & 3:9), how are you walking righteously in the sight of God?
How are you exercising your patience as you wait for God to answer your prayers?
